Youth & Government students recently attended a District Conference to prepare for their State Convention. The conference was held at the Silver Bay YMCA Conference Facility.

This was the group’s first  of two district conferences before their State conference in Albany.

Bolton is part of District 3 for YAG and is joined by Minerva, Newcomb, Johnsburg, Queensbury and North Warren.

At this conference, Tyler Trowbridge (NYS Youth Lieutenant Governor), Ila Hubert (our NYS Editor in Chief) and other members of our student leadership shared what the conference would be like, the rules of parliamentary procedure and allowed time for legislative bill groups to work on their proposals.

Three of our BCS groups presented. Tyler, Sullivan, Ian and Alyas presented a bill to increase the threshold for the NYS Excelsior scholarship.

Ella, Finley, Lydia presented a bill to change the school admission age cutoff from December 1st to September 1st.

Andrew, Jadynn, Natalie, Thea and Maddy presented a bill to increase the amount of time needed for Speech and Language pathologists to attain their master's degrees.

YMCA Youth & Government is a national program that involves thousands of teens nationwide in state-organized, model-government programs. Students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in experiential civic engagement and literally practice democracy. The program culminates with teens serving as delegates at their state conference, debating bills on the floor of this legislature.
