College Planning Process

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q:  When should I start my college search?

A: It's never too early to begin the college exploration process. In 9th grade, students take a course, Introduction to Occupations, which allows them to complete an online interest inventory and abilities profile through a school provided database called Career Cruising. This gives the student an opportunity to explore career paths and related careers along with suggested high school courses to prepare for a career in this field.

Q: When do students take the PSAT Exam?

A: The PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) will be offered every October for Sophomores and Juniors. The PSAT is a practice test for the SAT. If you have any questions about the test, log onto www.collegeboard.org. This is the official website for the PSAT and SAT.

Q: When should I register for the ACT/SAT/SAT Subject Tests?

A: All Juniors should sign up in the Spring to take their ACT/SAT/SAT Subject Tests. The deadlines and registration information can be found on www.actstudent.org for ACT and www.collegeboard.org for SAT/SAT Subject Tests. Free practice questions and prep are available at Khan Academy for the SAT.
