Community can be defined as a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests and goals. Two Bolton Central School students were recently recognized for their essays on, “My Dreams for My Community.”

In the spring of last year, Mrs. Humiston encouraged her 7th and 10th grade students to enter a writing contest sponsored by the Adirondack Center for Writing and Adirondack Voters for Change. We are thrilled to share that 10th grader Emma Anand won first place, and 7th grader Thea Kennedy won an honorable mention. Both students were recognized at an awards ceremony on Monday, August 28 at the Adirondack Center for Writing in Saranac Lake. As part of first place recognition, Emma read her essay as part of the ceremony.

The contest was judged by writer and professor Shir Filler of North Country Community College, author and reporter Tim Rowland of Adirondack Explorer, author and reporter Adam Federman, author and editor Andy Flynn of Lake Placid News, teacher Joy McCabe, and author Ed Kanze. All were on hand to recognize students that shared their visions for their communities.

Secondary English teacher, Mrs. Lori Humiston and School Counselor for Grades 8 – 12, Mrs. Denise Clark were honored to join Emma and Thea’s families to honor our students’ remarkable achievements.

We would also like to thank Mr. Tony Hall of The Lake George Mirror for highlighting our students.
