2019 Battle of the Books is IN the Books!
Posted on 03/12/2019

Battle of the Books was held on Monday, March 11th at SUNY Adirondack. This year the event had over 500 students from 67 schools in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6 competing. Bolton Central School sent two teams of 15 students in grades 4 and 5 to the event. Students work very hard each year to prepare for this day of competition. Beginning in October, the students meet weekly and each student reads ten books (five fiction and five nonfiction). Sometimes they even read the books more than once. Then they compete with other schools to test their knowledge of the books that they have read. The week before the competition the coaches and Business/Computer teacher Ms. Carlson created team shirts in the Fab Lab with the students. The students used the Cricut machine to cut the design and then pressed them onto the shirts using the Fab Lab heat press.

Battle of the Books was a tough competition, but both of our teams did a great job this year. In fact, our 5th grade team made it to the semi-final round! It was really a great experience for the students and we couldn’t be prouder of the them and all of the hard work they put in. It fantastic and inspiring to see our students so excited about reading. Congratulations to all of the students who competed this year and they are looking forward to competing again in 2020!
