First Outing Club Trip of the Season!

First Outing Club Trip of the Season!
    Posted on 10/06/2023

Recently, students in the Outing Club and their advisors Mrs. Nesbitt and Ms. Thompson traveled to Saint Sacrament Island on Lake George. The group of twelve students in grades 7-9 enjoyed this experience very much!

Students, advisors and chaperones spent two nights camping in tents and hammocks. Some of the camping activities included roasting hotdogs and s’mores over a campfire, telling ghost stories in the light of the full moon, and swimming with the ducks and turtles near our campsites. Willing volunteers even learned how to make Macaroni and Cheese and boil hot water for cocoa!

On Saturday, the group hiked Black Mountain from the lake and enjoyed the waterfalls and forest scenery on the way up the mountain. Once at the top, all were rewarded with a  beautiful view of the lake and the fall colors from the summit. After dinner on Saturday, Officer Webster offered to take students who had completed the Boaters’ Safety Course out to drive one of the Pontoon boats. (Bolton Central School students in grades 6 – 12 were offered the opportunity attend a Boaters’ Safety Course held in the building and test for certification in the Spring of 2023.)

We would like to extend a special thank you to the Lake George Park Commission for supporting the Outing Club, F. R. Smith & Sons Marina for providing use the pontoon boats and to Officer Webster for securing the use of the island and the boats for the Outing Club over the weekend. Additional thanks to Officer Webster and his wife, Karen Kerby, Mr. Cody Kober, and Mr. Dustin Reiter for joining us as chaperones and for sharing their knowledge of camping and the lake. Bolton Central School students are very fortunate to have opportunities such as Outing Club and the many other extra-curricular options available to them - truly contributing to, “remarkable experiences in a supportive community, which will exceed all expectations!”

Making memories is an important part of these activities and what better memory is there than singing the Bolton Central School Alma Mater around a campfire?
