Athletic Event Rules

Please follow these rules:

1. At all athletic contests, coaches will be in charge of players.

2. Chaperones from both home and visiting schools attending the activity will have full charge of student spectators.

3. Visiting teams, spectators and referees are guests. Sportsmanlike conduct will be the responsibility of each member of the faculty and student body.

4. Students attending from Grade 6 or below must be accompanied by a parent (or adult) and remain with that parent (or adult) during the game (a student is not considered an adult for the purpose of this rule).

5. Smoking, vaping and tobacco use is strictly prohibited on school property.

6. Only those in uniform will be allowed on the playing surface at any time. Spectators are asked to avoid this area entirely.

7. Students are not allowed to leave the building and then reenter without prior permission. Once a student leaves the building, he/she are not be permitted to return.

8. Only players, coaches and managers will be allowed in the locker rooms. Others found there will be directed to leave.

9. Students and spectators will have access to bathrooms on the first floor only. These are located in the hallway adjacent to the gym.

10. Cordial host behavior is a reflection on Bolton Central School.

11. Spectators are not to be in the building outside the gymnasium area.

12. Spectators are to be seated and not stand in doorways.

It is important that we maintain our reputation as good hosts, good sports, and good spectators. No booing at any time. 

If a visiting teams’ players or spectators conduct themselves poorly, exert every effort to maintain a calm and cool manner. We have chaperones who constantly remind the crowd of the need to be good sports, but they cannot do it alone. All of us become part of the process.

Our student athletes are dedicated to the athletic contests they choose to be a part of. The promotion of participation and a level of fairness expected of athletes are experiences that support competitors in becoming the most supportive and respectful individual and team player one can be.

With that in mind, the best way to support a student athlete and their teammates is to consistently be a supportive spectator. NYSPHSAA (New York State Public High School Athletic Association) has approved a policy for spectator sportsmanship.
